Overview

This Himalayan Mustang mountain bike adventure is a true expedition to one of the most spectacular and remote cycling destinations on Earth. The trip begins with a cultural and scenic introduction: we drive up to Manakamana and reach its sacred temple by cable car before dropping into an unforgettable mega-descent. From there, the route heads on to Pokhara, where riding among emerald rice paddies and tropical forest trails contrasts beautifully with the imposing Himalayan skyline in the background.

As the adventure moves north, a short flight to Jomsom marks the transition to high-altitude riding. The pace naturally slows on arrival in Kagbeni, at 2,800 metres, giving time to acclimatise while we take in the wild beauty of the Mustang region. From here, the routes become increasingly wild and demanding. Long climbs take us towards Muktinath and beyond, above 4,000 metres, where the reward is a spectacular freeride descent.

Day by day, the terrain unfolds with extraordinary variety. Riders climb to panoramic summits overlooking the whole Mustang region, pass through Tibetan villages and descend endless natural trails. Around Thini, the adventure takes on a more exploratory character, with routes to hidden alpine lakes, high plateaus above 4,200 metres and newly discovered trails that combine fast, flowing sections with technical challenges. These descents are long, physical and hugely rewarding, and offer the kind of riding that defines true Himalayan mountain biking.

The physical and mental high point of the trip comes at the Mesokanto pass. After an early shuttle to high altitude, riders climb towards an imposing pass at 5300m, a demanding mix of pedalling and pushing the bike. From the top, the views are simply extraordinary, with Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Tilicho Lake spread out at our feet. What follows is a huge, continuous descent dropping thousands of metres into the valleys.

As the route turns south, riders can choose between climbing even higher to a remote summit near Dhaulagiri for a sandy, surf-like descent, or enjoying a quieter day following the Kali Gandaki river through pine forests and flowing trails. The final riding days combine everything the region has to offer: long descents, technical sections, playful flow and long cruising trails that eventually lead to Beni.

Throughout the trip, the riding is demanding and deeply rewarding. Expect high-mountain terrain, loose and rocky trails, sandy slopes, natural freeride lines and occasional hike-a-bike sections. This trip is designed for experienced riders with good fitness, confident bike handling and an appetite for real adventure.
